How this is estimated
With E&N counts drivers whose home and work places are both near a passenger station (full share within 2 km, none beyond 8 km). “Every station, frequent” assumes all stations on the map get 16 or more trains a day each way; “Trains in this timetable” uses only the stations and trains in your plan, and shrinks the share where fewer than 16 trains a day link the two stations. Driving shares are estimated from each place's 2021 commutes; Statistics Canada rounds counts to 5 or 10. Arcs bend to the right of the direction of travel; the arrow points to the workplace. Moving travellers follow the quickest route on the main road network, timed by Census arrival-at-work times by region; the trip home is assumed 8.5 hours later. Traffic congestion: BC Ministry of Transportation count stations (2025 permanent and short counts) and City of Victoria counts by hour; local roads without counts are modelled from nearby population. With E&N, the drivers who switch are taken off the count stations on their route. Campuses: UVic's 2023 counted trips; Camosun and VIU scaled from UVic per student and staff member. Airports: 2024–25 passenger totals. Ferries: BC Ferries traffic for the year to March 2025, averaged over the year, timed by this fall's weekday sailings (drivers reach the terminal 10–60 minutes before a sailing and leave in the 20 minutes after one docks). Their trips are spread over places by population and travel time and are not shifted to rail. CRD 2022 survey: all trips made on a fall 2022 weekday by residents of the Capital Region, between 19 survey districts and two areas outside it (Tables 43–46 of the survey report); dots are timed by the survey's trips by hour of day. Driving shares per district pair are estimated from the survey's sub-area mode shares, transit from each district's transit trip total; the survey counts each direction separately, so switches are one-way trips.Jobs & land use

Track speed
Passenger speed limit along the line, from the 2003 E&N track charts, the speed setting in the Track tab and any track works (outlined bands; dashed if not applied, click one to apply it or not). Bridges, tunnels and road crossings appear as you zoom in; red marks are out of service today.
Reported crashes
ICBC reported crashes, 2021–2025 (data as of 31 March 2026). Excludes parking lots and parked vehicles; mid-block crashes are placed between the nearest intersections.

Buses timed to trains
Each bus moves at an even pace from its first to its last stop. BC Transit's live vehicle positions can't be read from this page, so these are timetable positions, not live ones. Hover a bus for its trip times, a route line for its trips, or a station for the routes nearby.
Traffic congestion
BC Ministry of Transportation count stations (◆), weekday average by hour: permanent stations (2025; Six Mile 2024) and 2025 short counts; City of Victoria counts. Roads without a count are modelled from nearby population.
